tooth replacement surgery

What are Dental Implants?

Artificial teeth also known as dental implants are the best alternative to replace your natural ones. If you have missing teeth, our tooth implants are ideal for both functional and aesthetic purposes.

How do they work?

A titanium post or a screw is surgically inserted into your jawbone, below the gum tissue, to act as the tooth root for your dental implant. This provides the foundation required to support a restoration such as a crown, bridge, or denture, for a natural tooth-like look and feel.

Restore your smile with ease.

Dental Implant Procedure

01 Book your appointment

Visit a Dezy clinic close to you or have one of our specialist dentists come over and carry out a preliminary assessment.

02 Implant placement

Our expert dentist will administer local anesthesia before drilling into your jawbone and preparing it for your implant. If your bone does not have enough height or lacks strength, you may require a bone graft.

03 Healing

After we insert the tooth implant, we recommend a healing period of three to six months to allow a proper union between your jawbone and the implant.

04 Abutment tooth

We will expose the implant head and provide an attachment for the final prosthesis which could be a crown, bridge, or denture.

05 Permanent prosthesis placement

The last stage involves the placement of the final prosthesis to your implant. Once your surrounding tissue has healed post the second surgery, the prosthesis will be cemented or screwed on.

Frequently asked questions

01

What are the types of dental implants?

There are several types of dental implants, including:

  • Endosteal implants: These are the most common type of dental implant. They are surgically placed into the jawbone and are designed to mimic the root of a tooth. They are typically made of titanium and are used to support a single tooth, a bridge, or a denture.

  • Subperiosteal implants: These are placed on top of the jawbone, rather than being placed within it. They are typically used for patients who have a limited amount of jawbone or cannot tolerate a surgical procedure to augment their jawbone.

  • Mini dental implants: These are smaller in diameter than traditional endosteal implants and are typically used to support a denture or to anchor a single tooth.

  • Zygomatic Implants: These are longer dental implants that are used when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw to support traditional dental implants. These are anchored in the cheekbone.

  • All-on-4: This is a type of implant that uses just four dental implants to support an entire arch of teeth.

  • Immediate load implant: This type of implant, also known as "teeth in a day" or "same-day teeth", are placed in the jaw and loaded with a temporary or permanent restoration on the same day as the implant placement.

02

Are Dental Implants Permanent?

Dental implants are considered a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. They are designed to fuse with the jawbone, providing a strong and stable foundation for the replacement tooth or teeth.

However, just like with natural teeth, proper care and maintenance is required to ensure the longevity of dental implants.

03

Do Dental Implants Hurt?

The placement of dental implants is typically performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation to minimize pain and discomfort during the procedure.

After the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort or soreness for a few days, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

If you experience severe pain, swelling or bleeding, contact your dentist immediately.

04

How do you fix missing teeth?

There are several ways to replace missing teeth, including:

  • Dental bridges: A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic device that is anchored to the remaining natural teeth on either side of the gap.

  • Dental Implants: A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to act as a replacement tooth root. An artificial tooth, called a crown, is then placed on top of the implant.

  • Dentures: Dentures are removable prosthetic devices that are designed to fit over the gums and replace multiple missing teeth. They can be full or partial.

  • Dental partial: A dental partial is a removable prosthetic device that is designed to replace one or several missing teeth.

  • Dental Crowns: Dental crowns can be used to replace single missing tooth. A dental implant is first placed in the jawbone and then a dental crown is placed on top of the implant to complete the replacement tooth.

05

How long does a dental implant last?

Dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. However, on average, they typically last around 10 to 15 years. Factors such as oral hygiene, overall health, and the quality of the implant and the placement procedure can affect the longevity of the implant.

06

At what age can you get a tooth implant?

The age at which a person can get a dental implant varies depending on several factors, including their overall health, the health of their jawbone, and the maturity of their jawbone. In general, dental implants can be placed in individuals who have reached physical and emotional maturity.

For children, dental implant treatment is typically not recommended until the jawbone is fully developed. This usually occurs around the age of 18 for females and 21 for males.

However, in certain cases, a child may be a candidate for a dental implant at a younger age, but it would require an evaluation by a specialist in pediatric dentistry or oral surgery.

07

Does Health Insurance cover Dental Implants?

It depends on the specific health insurance plan. Some health insurance plans include coverage for dental implants, while others do not. It's best to check with your insurance provider to see if dental implants are covered under your plan. Additionally, some policies may cover only part of the cost of dental implants, and you may be responsible for paying the remaining balance.

08

Are Dental Implants Successful?

Yes, dental implants are generally successful with a success rate of 95% or higher when performed by a qualified dentist and proper aftercare is followed.

09

Can Dental Implants Be Done In One Day?

Yes, some dental implant procedures can be done in a single day, also known as "teeth-in-a-day" or "same-day implants". This can be achieved using advanced techniques and technologies, but the suitability depends on individual cases and the extent of the treatment needed. Consultation with a dentist is necessary to determine if same-day implants are possible.

10

Are dental implants major surgery?

No, dental implants are not considered major surgery. They are a routine dental procedure that is performed under local anesthesia or light sedation. The procedure is typically performed in a dentist's office and recovery time is usually short.
